I chose to study at CBS since I had heard that it was a really good university before. When I was choosing a bachelor program I also knew it had to concern China or Asia since I have lived in Asia for a couple of years. I didn’t want to just learn Chinese, I wanted a combination and since CBS is one of the few universities in Europe that offers that, it was pretty clear that I wanted to study ASP at CBS.
I believe ASP is appealing since it does combine either Japanese or Chinese with business, where you learn about both the Asian economy but also general business theories, models and concepts. Another reason of choosing CBS was also due to the university’s diversity of the student body. I love international environments and meeting new people from foreign cultures and it was my impression that CBS had this variety of cultures.
The unique feature of this bachelor is that it, as mentioned, combines Chinese with business. If you want to trade do business in Asia, your knowledge of the culture deeply matters as socializing with your customer is an important trait in Asian business negotiations. If you can communicate with them in their mother tongue and understand their customs, it shows respect and eases your negotiation process.
On the other hand, it is this exact combination which also makes it challenging. You need to be on top of the language while you also need to focus a lot on the more math/business related subjects and this can be difficult at times.
A good advice would be to keep up with the workload from the beginning, it’s a bad habit to start studying three weeks before the exam. Of course, many’ll want to join the social activities at the beginning of their bachelor since you need to integrate yourself, however, there’s plenty of room for that while still focusing on the books.
If you’re a different type who stresses about not being able to read every single chapter due to time pressure, you don’t have to worry. There is so much to read at it can be overwhelming, therefore it’s better to find suitable study techniques which allow you to get the most our of the chapters.
Don’t work harder, work smarter.
